A few words to the government

My solution would be the following:
1) Create a feeling of belonging with the public for security and have mass awareness campaigns. Maybe you forgot, but this worked well with the transistor bombs in delhi two decades ago.
2) The media should also be sensitive about what to report and what not to report. The sight of camerapersons trampling over evidence is not a good one.
3) A crisis management infrastructure should be created from grassroots level upwards.
4) Crying out about the heroism of the security forces and deriding politicians is not the answer. We are after all a democracy and it is our politicians who should rule, the bureuacracy should govern, the policemen should maintain law and order and provide internal security, the judiciary should maintain the rule of law and the army should maintain vigil at our borders. Please do not let one do the others'role. We are the safest when there is no need for the army to come out of its barracks.
5) The media should stop being sentimental and create a ruckus and whip up emotions whenever something happens and then go back to reporting about the love lives of cricketers and actors. There should be dedicated national security reporters for every channel who know their jobs and should ask the right questions.
6) Finally, the police should be reformed thoroughly starting from their uniforms to equipment to training to philosophy. This should start from the grassroots level right up to the top and there should be clear demarcation of law and order and investigative duties.
7)These ideas do not require any great thinking, these have been thought about by a person with basic knowledge and intelligence. I am sure there are people in the government and civil society who can think more than me.

Mumbai Terror -28 November 1753

The NSG Commandoes came by BEST buses.... HAHAHA.......havent they heard of armored vehicles........or troop carriers. These things are built for a purpose............ and what happened to choppers?????????

Mumbai Terror-28 November 1558 hrs

The Nariman House tamasha is getting over looks like. Meanwhile there is again no sight of police law and order presence.

Mumbai Terror- 28 Nov 1315

They have finally realised this!! The TV Channels have been asked not to show live pictures of the operations. My question is how are they being allowed to go so near this. This not only puts the lives in danger as well as the operation in jeopardy. People are just standing around and watching. Havent these guys heard about setting up a perimeter and policing the perimeter, the basics of law enforcement??????

Mumbai Terror-28 Nov 0745

My God!! It still is not over. The politicians are at it. Poor advani got left out of the plane that took the PM and Sonia to mumbai. Meanwhile, the shootout continues. Also, looks like everyone wants to talk to the press. First there was AN Roy of maharashtra police, then there was some army general, then a navy admiral, then some minister of maharashtra government, now there is a hooded and masked man who looks like a commando (looks like a MARCOS) who is giving his own press conference. Oh!! I forgot the NSG chief. Remember the New York and London attacks. We had press conference by the Mayor of New York and London and all the police and service chiefs standing behind..........

Mumbai Terror- November 27 1800hrs- The media

This is turning into a media circus. The media does not have a clue what they are doing. Looks like you just have to shout onto the mic and you are a reporter. Found only NDTV to be a little sane but barkha dutt was going overboard. Hey this is not kashmir.......this is MUMBAI for God's sake. They are showing live pictures of the commando operations. Hasnt' the security forces heard of media management....do you want to give away all your tactics. If the terrorists can't see the tv channels, their controllers can surely see it.
I remember one image when a person was not allowed to enter the ambulance because he was blocked by cameramen and journalists. What is this? is it a tamasha? Total unprofessionalism

Mumbai Terror- 27 november 9.00 AM

They are saying that the ATS chief is dead shot in the chest. Hey, don't they hear about bulletproof vests in Mumbai. And the chief........shot in the chest. What was he doing there? Sorry to hear about his death. Obviously he was a brave man and my thought goes over to his family and his loved ones. We are grateful for his martyrdom. But anyone who has read SunTzu will remember "A dead soldier is a martyr and a hero, a dead general is a fool". What was he doing there without any protection. This shows complete lack of training. Of do they think that they are immortal. Mr Karkare, Mr Kamte, Mr Salaskar, Mumbai needed you alive not dead.
